If you have read this far then maybe youre just interested enough in Hospital Radio to join us! No experience is required and full hands-on training is given. Please realise that Hospital Radio requires quite a serious level of committment.
Still Interested? The first thing you should do is to telephone, e-mail or write to us saying that you are interested in becomming a member. You will be contacted & invited to the studio for a look around & for an informal chat about Radio Sunderland & what we do. If after this you wish to join us then you can fill in an application form then & there. What Happens Next? The first then you will do is meet the Request Co-ordinator for request collection training at the Sunderland Royal Hospital. Only one or two visits are generally required. After being approved as a request collector you will be assigned to an evening as a trainee. Although you won't be able to do any presentation or technical work immediately, you can help in other studio tasks & you will begin to learn our operating methods. At this time the Training Officer will be informed that you are now ready to start the studio based training, either Presentation and/or Technical Operation - we always encourage people to try both disciplines as in a staff shortage being able to do everything is very handy! From the date that you attend your first Training Session at the studio, you become a Probationary Member. From now on you will have to pay a subscription fee of £2 per week. You will also be issued with a Probationers ID badge. From this date you are expected to show a commitment to our fundraising activities & your name will also appear on the request collection rota. Once training is complete the Programme Controller will arrange with you a suitable night for you to join the permanent staff. You will become a member of a team which will work together on a specific night. Staff are normally expected to be available from the start of an evening until the end of broadcasting for every week of the 13 week schedule. The first programme you will work on will be Ward Call, the patients request programme. After working on Ward Call you may wish to develop your own programme. You should discuss your ideas with the Programme Controller & if necessary the Training Officer. You will have to submit a demo recording for evaluation by the Programme Controller. Besides devising your own programme, you may be interested in joining the Sports Team. To become a Full Member it is necessary to attend a Committee Meeting so that your probationary performance can be evaluated. On becoming a full member you will be issued with a members ID badge & your subscription fee will drop to £1 per week. You can apply for full membership after you have succesfully completed at least one part of your training (presentation or technical) & have been a probationary member for at least 13 weeks. After being a full member for three months & if your performance is of the required standard, you will be issued with a certificate. Interested? Click here for information on how to contact us. |
